Introduction
Whoever is suffering from any ailment must remember that it is ultimately God’s Grace and Mercy that will provide relief to their health problem and not the skills of any medical staff or hospital. So prayer is a necessary prerequisite in the seeking of improving one’s health difficulties.
- As the ultimate healer of any type of illness, God Almighty is known as Al-Shaafi meaning the Curer.
- The Holy Prophet ﷺ said to a physician: “You are only a soother to your patient. His physician is He Who has created him," [i.e Allah]. It is indeed only a favour from Allah Almighty that He has bestowed upon man the intelligence to progress in medical advancement.
- When the Holy Prophet ﷺ was asked if we should make use of medical treatment he replied: “Treat sickness, for Allah has not created any disease except He has also created the cure, except for one disease… old age.” (Ref: Al-Tirmidhi)
- The Holy Prophet ﷺ always insisted on prayer and Sadaqa (giving of charity) that assist in the healing of illness.
- Below are just a few prayers from the Holy Qur'an and Hadith and additional information. One is also encouraged to recite other very important prayers in times of any difficulty like Surah Fatiha, Ayat ul Kursi and especially Durood.
"The words, if Allah touches thee with affliction, do not mean that God is the cause of affliction. The words are meant to convey the idea that God being the first cause of all things, everything that happens in the universe is in a way attributable to Him. The expression is also intended to hint that it is God alone Who can remove man's afflictions.
Happiness indeed comes form God, Who is the real source of all good. This is why, when speaking of happiness coming to man, the Qur'an uses the expression, He has power to do all that He wills." (Vol.2, p.679 of The Holy Qur'an with English Translation and Commentary)

"The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned that: 'There is no disease that Allah the Almighty has created, except that He also has created its treatment.' (Bukhari). We know that fruits are healthy for us, however, according to the Holy Qur'an, they also contain cures for us!"
